The Outer Limits: Part Deux
Where all things cozy, chic, and downright essential abound.
As a girl from the North Country (cue: Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash), prepping my cold-weather arsenal each season feels like gearing up for a winter battle. Last week, we layered into the world of coats—but now, we’re shifting to the functional accessories that prove there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear.
Enjoy this edit of essentials that make sure your winter wardrobe is as fashion-forward as it is functional. Because why settle for simply surviving winter when you can own it? Whipping winds and slick sidewalks aren’t exactly exciting—but from a style perspective, they present a challenge worth embracing.
I have a tendency to abuse hat season—because any excuse to skip a hair-wash day is welcome—so I’m officially here for the balaclava. (Real talk: I have to double-check every time whether it’s spelled “balaclava” or “baklava,” which, as we all know, is actually a Greek dessert, not a knitted hood.) I digress. My husband jokingly calls it my “bank robber look,” and while he’s not entirely wrong, I think it’s a stylish upgrade from the usual beanie. Bonus: it doubles as both a scarf and a hat. And we love a convenient one-and-done, yes?
There’s no question as to whether it’s functional. But when it comes to style, what do we think?
For those that want to join me in my next heist, I rounded up some of my favorites to shop:
Mango 2. Cos 3. J.Crew 4. & Other Stories 5. Balzac Paris 6. Ganni 7. Aritzia 8. Tbco 9. Kujten
French brand Kujten currently has everyone wrapped in a cashmere chokehold—and I’m no exception. I scooped up the petite bandana earlier this Fall, but the larger scarf is winning me over with all it styling possibilities.
On the topic of statement scarves, I’ve been on the hunt for a plush faux-fur scarf (fingers crossed this Apparis one finds its way under my Christmas tree!) to add a touch of texture and old‑Hollywood glamour to a classic wool or leather coat. The right scarf can do serious work—hooded, neck warmer, or a triangle drape—turning the coats you’re growing tired of into more of a styled moment.
Free People 2. Apparis 3. Eaves 4. Chan Luu 5. Cos 6. By Malene Birger 7. Kujten 8. Toteme 9. Modern Citizen
Don’t forget your knits can also moonlight as scarves. Tip: mix textures—like a fuzzy cardigan (Cos brushed cashmere worn here sold out, similar linked here)—or add a pop of color with a classic car coat to give depth and keep the ‘fit from feeling flat.
I’ve owned more than my fair share of black leather gloves over the years (shoutout to my favorite fringe pair, similar style linked here and here). How does such a simple accessory manage to instantly elevate a look with almost no effort? I’m digging all the burgundy, chocolate, and olive green colors for adding a little unexpected finger flair. Or why not indulge in a little fur moment?
Last but not least, what are we putting on our feet? Once the first frost hits, we’re kicking our ankle-baring flats to the curb and stepping into styles that truly go the distance. These picks walk the fine line between fashion and function:
Ugg 2. Loeffler Randall 3. Inuikki 4. Freda Salvador (Code Madeline10) 5. Staud (look for less here) 6. Hunter 7. Margaux
Final few things that caught my eye:
& Other Stories and Alex Mill brushed cashmere beanies
Apparis fur gloves to match the scarf (also how cute are the fingerless?)
Guest in Residence chalet shawl
A touch of fair isle

It's SO chic and I am GRATEFUL as of 7:43pm NO ONE has selected creep. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
